Troopers said Mia Ashley Stevenson and an accomplice are also charged in nine other cigarette thefts across three counties
A Philadelphia woman accused of stealing cartons of Newports from two Montgomery County Wawa stores in June is also linked to a string of thefts across three counties, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Mia Ashley Stevenson, 24, of the 1600 block of 68th Avenue, was charged Aug. 8 with felony retail theft — third or subsequent offense — and felony receiving stolen property following an incident June 20 at the Wawa on Skippack Pike in Skippack Township, according to charging documents.
Troopers said Stevenson entered the store around 8:23 p.m., requested four cartons of Newport Menthol 100’s cigarettes valued at $505.62, and walked out without paying. She fled in a dark-colored Nissan Altima driven by Andre Calhoun, investigators said.
Minutes earlier, Stevenson was captured on surveillance at another Wawa on Main Street in Harleysville, Lower Salford, where she allegedly walked out with additional cartons of cigarettes without rendering payment.
Police said Stevenson was wearing the same Statue of Liberty shirt and entered the same Nissan Altima during both thefts.
Authorities said Stevenson and Calhoun are also facing charges in connection with at least nine other retail thefts in Delaware, Philadelphia, and Montgomery Counties.
Stevenson is free on $10,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 10 before Magisterial District Judge Adam T. Katzman.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
