The newest member of Lansdale’s most exclusive club has been a fixture on the town’s sports scene for decades.

Saturday’s Founders Day festivities will include a unique honor for the newest winner of the Lansale Lifetime Achievement Award.

“The theme for Founders Day this year is ‘Game On,’ and it is kind of self-explanatory: focuses on games, and sports,” said council President Mary Fuller.

“To that end, this year we are honoring George Adams: most known with the Cannoneers, but really for several decades,” she said.

Every summer, borough nonprofit Discover Lansdale presents a Lifetime Achievement Award to those who have dedicated at least 25 years to the community. Prior honorees have been longtime borough fire chief Jay Daveler in 2012; borough Parks and Recreation Director Carl Saldutti in 2013; North Penn High School principal and Marching Knights band leader Stephen Frederick in 2014; then-LHS President and longtime Reporter editor Dick Shearer in 2015; business owner and former Lansdale Business Association head Margie Booz in 2016; North Penn Boys and Girls Club CEO Bob Kreamer in 2017; Lansdale Cemetery caretaker Richard Stricker in 2018; Frank and Georgette Koehler, owners of Koehler’s Jewelers and Diamond Merchants, in 2019; Ray Walton, longtime head of family heating oil business Clyde S. Walton Inc. in 2021, Rev. Sue Bertolette, longtime pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ, in 2023 and Anne Henning-Scheuring, the former councilwoman who organized the ‘Hometown Heroes’ banners honoring veterans in town and across the region, in 2024.

Adams will be a worthy addition to that club, Fuller announced during the Aug. 6 council meeting: “He has been instrumental, as a board member, as a coach, as an administrator, in Lansdale’s youth sports,” she said.

“He really built the ‘Challenger’ program, that makes sports accessible and inclusive for people of all abilities in our community. He has put his heart and soul and life into this, so therefore this year, we will be honoring him,” she said.

One change from prior years: instead of the traditional award presentation at the Lansdale Historical Society’s Jenkins Homestead, the presentation will be held about a block east, at a fitting location within Memorial Park.

“We will be presenting the award out on the ballfield at Weaver Field, at 10:30 in the morning, and that will happen prior to a big wiffleball game. So if you’d like to play wiffleball, you can sign up, and join the team, and have some fun: come see George get awarded, and play a little wiffleball and enjoy Founders Day,” Fuller said.

The Cannoneers added their own congratulations in a Facebook post: “If you have been involved with the Cannoneers, you have seen George and his dedication in action. He can be seen coaching various teams, working on the fields, cleaning bathrooms, handling registration, and filling in wherever there is a need. We are hoping to create a sea of green during the award ceremony! Come out in your Cannoneers gear…”

That award presentation is just one part of a busy day, with other events scheduled as follows:
