White Sox take 1-0 series lead with 16-hit offensive outburst

Collegeville’s bats came alive Tuesday night, launching the defending champions to a 13-5 victory over top-seeded Lansdale in Game 1 of the Perkiomen Valley Twilight League championship series.

The White Sox offense spread the damage across all nine innings, racking up 16 hits — including four doubles and a three-run homer — while also drawing seven walks at Weaver Field in Memorial Park, according to The Times Herald. The win gives second-seeded Collegeville a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Lansdale’s starting pitcher Will Conroy, regarded as one of the league’s top arms, exited in the second inning after throwing a wild pitch, per the report.

Collegeville quickly capitalized. Kevin Reilly and Mark McCouch drove in early runs before a throwing error on a Kyle Feaster bunt allowed two more to score for a 4-0 advantage, according to the Times Herald.

Lansdale cut the lead in half with a two-run double from Deven Ross, but the momentum shifted back to Collegeville in the fourth. A high pop-up from Feaster was lost in the lights, sparking a rally that ended with newcomer Joey Lancellotti — a former UNC standout and 2019 New York Yankees draft pick — blasting a three-run homer to left, according to the gameplay report.

From there, the White Sox kept the pressure on.

Jason Hughes earned the win for Collegeville, striking out nine over five innings while allowing just two runs. Benny Wilson closed out the final two frames.

Lansdale’s bullpen of Jimmy Tooley and Austin Dahl handled the remaining innings after Conroy’s early departure, according to the article.

Lansdale’s final push came in the sixth with three runs, including an RBI walk from Anthony Bruno, but it was not enough to erase the deficit.

Game 2 is set for Wednesday at 7 p.m., again at Weaver Field.
