Dylan Michael Gamber, of Ascot Court, faces up to 23 months in Montgomery County jail
A Montgomery Township man admitted to causing a four-vehicle chain-reaction crash in August 2023 in the township that left another driver with life-threatening injuries and faces 11 ½ to 23 months in Montgomery County jail.
Dylan Michael Gamber, 23, of the 600 block of Ascot Court, pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony aggravated assault by vehicle and misdemeanor reckless endangerment in connection with the Aug. 4, 2023 crash at Welsh and Gwynedd View roads, according to The Mercury. He is free on bail and ordered not to drive a vehicle as condition of bail.
Gamber told police he was speeding and passing cars because he needed to get a soda at the Dollar General because his blood sugar was low, per the report.
Before he is sentenced, Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Risa Vetri Ferman ordered a background investigation and drug and alcohol evaluation for Gamber, as well as an assessment for house arrest, per the report.
Assistant District Attorney Gabriella Eileen Glenning told The Mercury that jail time is necessary for Gamber as punishment.
“This defendant was going double the speed limit on a road where he didn’t care about the other drivers. He just wanted to go fast. Once he rear-ended the main victim, it created a domino effect of a car collision. This case is thankfully not a homicide by vehicle but it could have been close to it,” Glenning told the press.
Authorities said Gamber was driving a BMW 330i westbound on 40-mph-posted Welsh Road between 80 and 100 mph, when he hit the back of a Dodge Caravan, police said.
The force of the crash sent both cars in to the eastbound lane of Welsh Road, where the Dodge was hit again by a Ford Explorer, police said. Gamber’s BMW propelled into the driver side of the Explorer and into a Ford Mustang that was behind the Explorer in traffic, police said.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan suffered life-threatening injuries, including fractured ribs and a collapsed lung, police allege.
The event data recorder from Gamber’s BMW showed he was driving at 106 mph before impact, per the report.
