A Philadelphia man has been arrested and charged by Franconia Township Police with driving a stolen Ford Explorer that ran out of gas in a township neighborhood.

Darnell Marquez Watson, 37, of the 5400 block of Arlington Street, was charged April 4 with felony receiving stolen property and a summary charge of driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked, according to charging documents.

Police said a resident in the area of Augusta Drive and Oakmont Drive West reported a suspicious vehicle parked in front of her home on April 3 at 11:38 a.m.

Upon arrival, police made contact with the driver, identified as Watson, who was parked in the intersection. Police said the Ford Explorer was not running, but the key was in the ignition. When asked whey he was there, Watson said he was trying to meet someone, police said.

It appeared the Ford had run out of gas, police said. When asked where he was coming from, Watson said he was driving to meet someone, but could not provide a destination address or name of the person he was meeting, police said.

Watson could not produce identification, police said.

A check of the vehicle’s registration fund it was reported stolen to Philadelphia Police on April 2, police said.

Watson’s license was suspended, police said, and a records check found a history of driver’s license suspensions.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
