Pennridge Regional Police said it is investigating a report of extortion and theft involving an East Rockhill Township resident, a Facebook friend and $2,300 in gift cards.

Police said on March 26 a resident of the 2000 block of North Rockhill Road reported that they had paid a supposed Facebook friend nearly $2,300 in gift cards in a scam.

The resident was contacted by the friend on Facebook and was told that they had photos of the victim engaged in sexual activity. In order to prevent the sharing of said photos, the resident was blackmailed for $2,300 in gift cards, police said.

The resident complied with the demand, and then realized that they were being scammed, police said.
