Local library planning fundraiser, egg hunt and more
Every day is a busy day, and April is an even busier month than usual, at the North Wales Area Library.
Council members thanked the library’s volunteers and staff recently, presenting a proclamation in honor of National Library week.
“I wanted to come and personally thank this board, and past boards as well, for having the foresight to fund our library. As you all know, it’s a lot more than just dusty old books,” said library board President Suzan Leonard.
“We appreciate everybody’s support, and continued support. We keep growing and expanding, and people keep coming. Thanks for all you do,” she said.
Located since 2010 in a renovated former factory on Swartley Street, the library offers near-constant activities and programs for residents, including free classic books for newborns, online offerings including daily story time book readings on the library’s Facebook page, courses in sign language, free museum passes to local destinations, a ‘Star Library’ designation as one of the best in the state, and a ‘Human Library’ program where visitors can learn from the life stories of others.
During the March 25 meeting, council President Sal Amato read the proclamation on behalf of council recognizing National Library Week on April 6-12.
“During this week, we encourage all residents to visit their library and celebrate the opportunities they unlock for us every day,” Amato said.
“Libraries spark creativity, fuel imagination, and inspire lifelong learning, offering a space where individuals of all ages can explore new ideas and be drawn to new possibilities,” he said.
Upcoming events include the annual ‘Taste of Montgomery County’ fundraiser at St. Rose of Lima Church on April 10, an Easter egg hunt on April 19, and a used book sale on May 10, for which residents can drop off used books during normal library hours, according to library Associate Director Erin Thompson.
