One day after an embarrassing 9-1 loss to the Nationals, the Phillies were held scoreless through seven innings and lost to the Nats again on Saturday. 6-3 was the final.
Zack Wheeler pitched well (6.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2, 2 BB, 11 K) and Trea Turner hit a two-run home run. But Jeff Hoffman served up four runs in the eighth and, other than the Turner dinger, the Phils' bats didn't do much.
The Nationals outhit the Phillies 25-9 across the two games.
Fans are not pleased.
Not knowing what version of this team we’re getting next week terrifies me
The Phillies are going to lose in the first round.
playoffs soon. pic.twitter.com/sEqpUQkGUJ
Phillies are “better” than they were the last 2 years entering the postseason and it’s the least excited i’ve been for the playoffs, they are playing like a joke of a team right now
Lovely, Phillies comeback and Hoffman turns into shit right before the playoffs. This team is getting swept
Me ignoring all the Phillies problems, the fact they constantly struggle to score, that they’re 1-4 since clinching the East, 4-8 their last 12, 33-35 since July 11, and convincing myself they’re now going to turn it on for an entire month and win a championship: pic.twitter.com/CYIXuLjvWB
Even the Bull had a message for the team.
Phillies better wake up.
The loss eliminated any chance of winning the NL's top seed over the Dodgers.
Phillies are now the No. 2 seed. You can officially cross off the Padres as a possible NLDS opponent.
Phillies really didn’t want that one seed
With the Phillies losing today, the Dodgers have clinched MLB's best record this season –– and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs
Fourth time since 2017 the Dodgers have been the majors' winningest team
But not everyone has lost phaith!!!
How quickly people forget what the Phillies looked like before Jean Segura ripped a single to give the Phillies the lead in game one of the 2022 NLWC. Or how they looked going into the 2023 NLWC.
The Phillies are different in the postseason and they have a week to get healthy.…
Why is everyone so miserable about a game the team didn’t care about? Stop listening to WIP so much https://t.co/A9EHdKPqcq
The Rangers were shit down the stretch to end 2023. Please stop trying to equate this stretch to what the Phillies will or won’t win, and go outside.
I love you all but it is so incredibly apparent on here that this is the first time the Phillies have been able to coast through the end of their season in almost fifteen years.
Two seed is still a very impressive accomplishment that signifies a great season.
The one was in play and they fell just short. Doesn’t change the fact that it’s been an incredible year.
Sit everyone tomorrow and then….
Red October.
Game one of the NLDS is one week away, whether the Phillies are ready or not. As the two seed, they'll play the winner of the wild card series between the three-seed Brewers and whichever team gets the six seed. The latter could be the Braves, Mets, or Diamondbacks.
