2011 Was Approximately One Million Years Ago

On September 17, 2011, the Philadelphia Phillies clinched the National League East for the fifth straight season. 4,753 days later, we're still waiting for them to do it again.

Some things happened in between. Gather 'round, children. Let's talk about 2011.

- Barack Obama was president.

- Cole Hamels was 27 years old, the same age Alec Bohm is now.

- 18-year-old Bryce Harper hit 17 home runs for the class-A Hagerstown Suns and the AA Harrisburg Senators.

- James Gandolfini, Whitney Houston, and Paul Walker were alive.

- Kung Fu Panda 2 was released. (Now we are blessed with 4 Kung Fu Pandas!)

- The Philadelphia Eagles "dream team" went 8-8.

- Johan Rojas celebrated his 11th birthday.

- U.S. Navy SEALs killed Osama Bin Laden in May.

- The word "blockchain" was added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

- Jose Bautista (Phillies legend) led the majors with 43 home runs.

- 23-year-old Clayton Kershaw (2.28) won the ERA title, narrowly edging out Roy Halladay (2.35) and Cliff Lee (2.40).

- Game of Thrones premiered in April on HBO.

- The Phillies unveiled a brand new Harry Kalas statue at Citizens Bank Park.

- In February, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers beat Troy Polamalu and the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. Christina Aguilera sang the national anthem. The Black Eyed Peas headlined the halftime show.

- The Denver Nuggets traded Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks.

- Steve Carell left The Office, but they kept making episodes for some reason.

- Paul Goldschmidt won USA Today's Minor League Player of the Year award.

- The King's Speech won Best Picture at the Oscars.

- Craig Kimbrel won National League Rookie of the Year.

- Apple released the iPhone 4s in October.

- Prince Fielder was MVP of the All-Star Game.

- The 2011 MLB postseason was canceled because the Phillies were obviously the best team.
