Local schools make the cut for state funding

  • Montgomery County

Senator Maria Collett, whose district involves much of Montgomery County, recently announced $91,476 in state funding to provide period products in school districts, intermediate units, career and technical centers, and charter schools across her district.

“Everyone should have access to the menstrual products they need to live healthy, productive lives, yet nearly a quarter of American students have struggled to afford them,” Senator Collett said. “I was proud to champion the historic $3 million budget investment to put period products in Pennsylvania public schools, and I’m thrilled to announce more than $91,000 will directly benefit students here in the 12th District.”

Grant allocations in the 12th District include:

Central Montco Technical High School – $1,592.50

Colonial School District – $9,857.75

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology – $1,107.75

Hatboro-Horsham School District – $7,367.50

Lower Moreland School District – $4,541.25

Methacton School District – $8,086.75

Montgomery County Intermediary Unit – $969.50

North Montco Technical Career Center – $1,772.75

North Penn School District – $22,746.50

Souderton Area School District – $10,617.25

Souderton CS Collective – $421.75

Upper Dublin School District – $7,178.50

Upper Moreland School District – $6,125

Wissahickon School District – $9,091.25

“As we celebrate this win for our students, our fight to end period poverty continues. We can remove unnecessary barriers and make sure vulnerable Pennsylvanians can access these essential healthcare items by passing Senate Bill 906, my Menstrual Equity Act, and Senate Bill 1016, which would finally allow SNAP and WIC recipients to use their benefits to purchase period products,” said Collett. “This is not a partisan issue; it’s a public health issue.”

This funding was provided through the 2024-25 Feminine Hygiene Product Grant Program which was secured through a historic $3 million investment in the 2024-25 Pennsylvania State Budget.

Schools have the option to opt out of receiving grant funding and any remaining funds will be disbursed in a second round. Schools can find guidance for how to implement this funding in the Menstrual Equity for Pennsylvania Students – Guidance for School Entities.
