Dating back to 1949, Goodwill is a non-profit organization that provides food, beverages, shelter and restrooms to emergency workers.
State Rep. Steve Malagari presented a proclamation to North Penn Goodwill Service Inc. Monday evening, Sept. 16, in honor of the emergency canteen service’s 75th anniversary.
“It’s an amazing milestone within the history of an organization that does service for others to hit 75 years,” said Malagari.
Dating back to 1949, Goodwill is a non-profit organization that provides food, beverages, shelter and restrooms to emergency workers. An all-volunteer organization, Goodwill predominantly services Bucks and Montgomery counties but has also responded to emergencies in other counties throughout southeastern Pennsylvania.
“Within our area, you are the only ones that do what you do,” said Malagari. “And it’s important to spread that message so we can get more new members coming in.”
Gathered inside the North Penn Goodwill building in Souderton, Goodwill leaders and volunteers listened as Malagari read the proclamation on behalf of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, which noted Goodwill’s “inestimable contributions to the welfare of society” and mindfulness of the “noble maxims of the organization,” namely to serve those who serve others.
“The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania salutes North Penn Goodwill Service Inc. on 75 years of steady growth and solid achievement and offers best wishes for continuing success as it moves towards further thresholds of excellence,” read the proclamation.
Malagari concluded by touting his support for additional state grants and resources to ensure Goodwill’s continued longevity.
“While I can’t promise the world, our office is open,” said Malagari. “We’re here to try to meet the needs of the organization, to build upon the membership and make sure we hit another 75 years,” said Malagari.
Following the proclamation presentation, Goodwill Chief Jim Hange treated Malagari to a brief tour of the organization’s new state-of-the-art canteen unit, outfitted with refrigerators, freezers, coffee makers and more.
“Congratulations on 75 well-deserved years and to 75 more,” said Malagari.
