Gas line severed Thursday morning along Sumneytown Pike, no harm to public, police say

PECO responded to the scene to assess the incident that affected traffic eastbound.

A gas leak due to a ruptured pipe affected traffic on Sumneytown Pike Thursday morning in Upper Gwynedd, but there was no harm or threat to the public, aside from a strong odor.

Upper Gwynedd Township Police said the gas service line leak was reported at 8:51 a.m.

Police said a construction crew hit a 1.5-inch gas line and PECO was advised of the situation.

PECO arrived at 9:32 a.m. and the scene was under control minutes later.

Police said there was no threat to the public.

Upper Gwynedd Fire Department responded to and assessed the scene alongside PECO.  

The right lane of the two-lane portion of eastbound Sumneytown Pike was reduced to one lane at Supplee Road.
