Many Hatfield long-timers will remember Edwin “Ed” Visser, Hatfield's "Mad Jogger.”
Ed was a longtime resident of Hatfield Borough and would often be seen doing his slow-paced jog around town, always carrying a walking stick.
But what many folks didn't know was that Ed was quite an inventor, with ideas WAY ahead of his time. He wasn't interested in fame & fortune from his ideas, just a desire to improve people's lives.
Ed’s passion was for inventing devices to assist the disabled, especially the blind, sometimes incorporating technologies that were not yet even developed.
This is a 1980 newspaper photo showing Ed, at the age of 72, with one of his many inventions, a 10-finger Braille reader.
He died 17 years later in 1997.
