John Bartholomew (1862-1943), a professional photographer from upstate Pennsylvania, made his home in Lansdale in 1891. He was the go-to portrait photographer of his day.

Bartholomew also captured local scenes of Lansdale and surrounding towns that were featured on postcards. Folks sometimes mailed the postcards to get “quick” messages to friends and family, perhaps to let them know they arrived home safely or to express fond thoughts and memories.
Think of it as an early form of texting … that would be received in only a couple of days!
Lansdale Historical Society was founded in 1971, and its purpose is to preserve the history of the Borough of Lansdale and the greater North Penn area, and to share its collection of material and resources with the greater community, particularly the youth. It has its headquarters in a two-building complex, located on Jenkins Avenue in the center of Lansdale, Montgomery County, PA. The buildings are owned by the Borough of Lansdale.
