Fire, EMS on scene of crash involving car into a guardrail, tree on northbound I-476

One person was transported via Freedom Valley Medical Rescue to an area hospital for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries suffered in an accident on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Towamencin Township Tuesday morning.

According to Montgomery County emergency dispatch, a white utility van crashed through a guardrail and struck a tree, while traveling northbound on I-476.

According to reports, the driver was unconscious and CPR was initiated, as of 11:35 a.m. EMS arrived at the hospital by 12:05 p.m., per emergency dispatch reports.

Towamencin Vol. Fire Co. and Tylersport Fire Co. were on scene, but had been recalled before noon. 

Pennsylvania State Police and Harleysville Area Emergency Medical Service/Freedom Valley Medical Rescue assessed the scene.
