A familiar face is joining the North Penn School District.

School board members voted unanimously Thursday night to appoint a new head of facilities, starting in December.

“With that motion and subsequent vote and approval, I am very pleased to introduce our new Director of Facilities and Operations, Mr. William Slawter. Congratulations,” said Superintendent Todd Bauer.

Back in August, board members voted to accept the retirement notice of Tom Schneider, longtime district director of facilities and operations, who had worked for the district from 2010 to 2016 and then since 2019; at that time the board said there would be an overlap period with a replacement, and his retirement date was given as March 29, 2025. During his tenure, Schneider helped manage the district’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, while developing and updating a long-term capital list of equipment and facility needs across the district, and planning and then overseeing major renovations to Crawford Stadium and Knapp Elementary School and more recently steering the public planning and discussions on renovations to North Penn High School.

Joining the district will be Slawter, a familiar face to those who follow the district closely: he was the project construction manager who oversaw major renovations to the district’s Crawford Stadium in 2020 to 2021 and to Knapp from 2020 to ’22, giving detailed reports each month on the work completed, change orders needed, any unexpected conditions, and/or safety issues seen at the work sites. In addition to work with Doylestown-based ICS Consulting on those projects, Slawter has previously worked as facilities manager for the Central Bucks School District from 2005 to 2017, along with prior jobs in the private sector, according to his LinkedIn profile.

During the school board action meeting on Oct. 17, the board voted unanimously to approve a package of personnel items for October, and that package lists Slawter with an effective date of Dec. 2 and a salary of just over $181,000 per year prorated. After the vote, Bauer pointed out Slawter for a round of applause as he sat in the front row of the meeting room, and joked that he’ll have plenty to do.

“There are some projects on the horizon, Mr. Slawter,” Bauer said, and board VP Christian Fusco added, “We’ll fill you in,” before board President Tina Stoll added, “Welcome to North Penn.”

North Penn’s school board next meets at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12 and the facilities and operations committee next meets at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28; for more information visit www.NPenn.org.
