A Wilkes-Barre man faces a preliminary hearing Wednesday after he was allegedly found trespassing and sleeping in a vacant apartment kitchen earlier this month, telling police he thought he was in Doylestown.

Evan John Taylor, 22, of the 30th block of Coach Road, Bear Creek, was charged by Hatfield Police with felony criminal trespassing and a summary charge of public drunkenness in connection with the 3 a.m. event on Oct. 13 at Hatfield Village Apartments, police said.

At that date and time, police responded to the apartment complex at 2058 Maple Ave. for a report of a man who entered a vacant apartment after attempting to enter another renter’s apartment, police said.

Upon arrival, police found the vacant apartment open and Taylor laying face down on the kitchen floor, per the affidavit.

Police shouted to wake up Taylor, who told police his name, that he lived in Wilkes-Barre, and that he thought he was currently in Doylestown, per the complaint.

Authorities said Taylor had no permission to be inside the apartment, and he had an odor of alcohol on his breath, with slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

Police said Taylor could give no reasonable account as to why he was in the apartment. Prior to police arrival, Taylor allegedly attempted to turn the handle of a locked apartment, and the tenant watched Taylor via peephole enter the vacant apartment.

Taylor is free on $10,000 unsecured bail, per court records.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
