The county's DA released that a man holding, raising a firearm ignored police commands to drop his weapon.

Upper Moreland Police were involved in a shooting while responding to an incident in the Willow Grove area.

According to a press release on Sunday evening, the Office of the Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said that an investigation into the officer-involved shooting is underway, as per protocol, all shootings of this type are. Montgomery County Detectives responded to the scene in order to investigate.

Police were called via 911 to the Commerce Square Apartments in Upper Moreland Township around 11:52 a.m. on Sunday in order to assist in a domestic disturbance call, said reports. Once two officers arrived, an 83-year-old woman let them inside, said the release. Officers reported entering the apartment to find a 68-year-old male resident, armed with a handgun, said Steele’s release.

According to the release, the man ignored police commands to drop the firearm, and instead began to raise up the firearm. At that time, reports stated, the police fired, fatally wounding the man.

The investigation is still ongoing in the matter. Information will be provided as more details become available.
