Pedestrian hit and killed in Ridge Pike shopping center lot Wednesday afternoon

A male pedestrian was hit and killed in the lot directly in front of Staples along the 1800 block of East Ridge Pike in Upper Providence Township, police confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

The scene was still active as of 3 p.m. at The Court of Upper Providence shopping center.

Upper Providence Police, Limerick Fire Dept. and associated Fire Police, Trappe Vol. Fire Co. and Fire Police, and Upper Providence Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services and its Fire Police were dispatched at 12:13 p.m. for a reported vehicle accident with rescue, according to Montgomery County emergency radio operations.

Authorities reported a man was trapped under the vehicle and not breathing.

Freedom Valley Medical Rescue personnel reported the victim as "Class 5" (deceased) to county emergency dispatch.

The striking vehicle is reported to be a Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Upper Providence Township Police is expected to issue an update Wednesday night.
