Man injured in fall into foundation hole at Hatfield construction site, rescued by fire personnel Wednesday

There was a heavy presence of fire and rescue personnel on the 1600 block of Cowpath Road Wednesday morning, due to the rescue of a 62-year-old man who fell into a foundation hole at the construction site for the new Hatfield Township Police station.

The patient suffered potentially life-threatening injuries and was taken by VMSC EMS to Grand View Hospital, according to Montgomery County emergency operations dispatch.

A call came in around 8 a.m. for an EMS request for a man who fell in a hole at the construction site. The patient was conscious and alert, per emergency radio reports, but was unsure if he was bleeding and could not move his arm.

VMSC EMS was on scene by 8:06 a.m., per reports.  

During the incident, authorities reported there was no need for shoring up of the hole.

Fire crews staged across the street at Snyder Square Shopping Center.

Responding units include Hilltown Township Fire Rescue, Colmar Fire Co., Hatfield Township Fire Co. ladder, and Perseverance Fire Co. Rescue, per county dispatch reports.

The patient was rescued from the hole and taken at 8:30 a.m. to the hospital, with VMSC clearing the incident by 9:20 a.m.

All fire and emergency personnel, with the exception of Hatfield and Perseverance Fire units, were released by 8:30 a.m., with the scene cleared by 8:40 a.m.
