Jason Dumas — Who Has Butted Heads With Sixers Fans — Joining 6 ABC

Jason Dumas announced Thursday on Twitter/X that he's leaving KRON4 News in the Bay Area to join 6 ABC

I do not personally know Jason. His name is familiar from Twitter, but that's the extent of things for me. Sports media is an industry that will unfortunately leave you jaded in relatively short order, so I feel happy for anyone that gets their dream job. It has to be particularly satisfying when you leave a market altogether and end up back, because there's no guarantee once you go out of sight that you won't be out of mind also.

I am told that Sixers Twitter has not always been fond of some of Jason's reporting, something that Kevin Kinkead of Crossing Broad has been all over throughout the years.

Dumas tweeted this in September of 2021 during the Ben Simmons saga, which was perceived to be from Klutch Sports, the agency that represents the former No. 1 overall pick:

I'm not aware of any organized groups who were planning to go to boo Simmons. Perhaps they would have once the season actually started, but going to the practice facility Camden to do so seems a bit far fetched.

That was a few weeks after this report about Tyrese Maxey, which he eventually kind of took back:

Look, reporting is hard. It's particularly difficult when there are two sides to a story that agree on almost nothing. You can be given information that's true at one point, only for an issue to be resolved in short order and the reporter is left with egg on their face. I don't know what happened in these two issues.

I do know it's not a great strategy to be a media member in Philadelphia that is on the wrong side of Crossing Broad

Anyway, probably less than 5% of the 6 ABC audience is probably even aware of Dumas right now. They will get to know him through his new job. I'm sure he has an excellent reel, and will probably do a good job. In the end, tweets from 2021 probably aren't going to define his time in Philadelphia.
