Plumstead Police ID victim of fatal motorcycle crash Friday night

Police said speed was likely a factor in the crash at Stump and Schlentz Hill roads.

Plumstead Township Police have released the name of the deceased motorcyclist killed in a crash Friday night at Stump Road and Schlentz hill Road as Daniel Dougherty, 22, of Blooming Glen Road, Hilltown Township.

Police said Dougherty’s family was notified of his death.

Police were dispatched at 7:22 p.m. to the intersection in Plumstead Township involving a single motorcycle accident involving a red Ducati.

Police said Dougherty was eastbound on Stump Road, headed toward Schlentz Hill Road, when he failed to negotiate a right bend in the road, and drove off the side of the roadway.

The road was closed until 10:10 p.m. Friday as authorities processed the scene.

There were no witnesses, police said.

Plumstead Township Police were assisted at the scene by Bedminster Township Police, Hilltown Township Police, Plumstead Fire Co. and Point Pleasant EMS.

Plumstead Township Police Chief David Mettin said speed may have been a factor in the crash, but the police accident reconstruction team is looking into it.
