Montgomery County welcomes the public to attend an open house on the Airy Street Prison Redevelopment in Norristown. The open house will take place on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Suite 202 (Montgomery Conference Room) of One Montgomery Plaza, 425 Swede Street, Norristown. Interested community members can stop by anytime during the open house to hear about the prison redevelopment public survey results, learn about next steps for the redevelopment project, speak with county staff, and enjoy some light refreshments.

Montgomery County is engaged over the course of this year to develop and issue a Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) that encourages a combination of architectural preservation, private development, and additional county facilities on a tract inclusive of the prison site as well as the adjacent county surface parking lot.

The county, in providing transparency and encouraging open dialogue in the work being conducted toward preserving and redeveloping the prison site, offered a public survey where citizens had an opportunity to share in the brainstorming of innovative concepts for the site within the predetermined county and local jurisdictional goals and site constraints. Nearly 700 people completed the survey. Visit Engage Montco for more information on the Airy Street Prison Redevelopment project.

Open house attendees will also have an opportunity to provide feedback on Montgomery County’s draft comprehensive plan, Montco 2050: A Comprehensive Plan for a Changing World.

In addition to metered street parking, the county parking lot (next to the Airy Street Prison) at Airy Street and DeKalb Street in Norristown is available for the open house. There is no charge to park in this lot.
