Not to be a Scrooge, but area police warn cars decorated with bright holiday lights and undercarriage lights during the Christmas season are illegal.

"If you are driving a car like this, you are literally driving yourself into a traffic ticket," Hatfield Police posted online Tuesday. "A few of these have been seen on roadways in the area, they are a huge distraction for drivers.”

Police said no ornamental lighting is permitted on vehicles, including undercarriage lighting. Such lights can cause a crash or worse for other drivers.

“Nothing can be altered in color from how it came off the line at the manufacturer,” police said. “We have an early Christmas present for you if you choose to be one of those who decide to do something different for the holidays.”
