An engine bay of a black Ford sedan caught fire on southbound Route 309 in the Colmar area of Hatfield Township Thursday night, backing up both lanes of southbound Bethlehem Pike/309 for the tail end of rush hour.

According to reports from the scene, the car was able to be moved from Route 309 to the empty lot of the former Colmar Inn Tavern, between Yum Yum Donuts and the Colmar Post Office. Colmar Fire Co. and Hatfield Police are on scene.

Northbound Route 309 lanes are open.

Colmar Fire Police is closing southbound 309 at Walnut Street. 

Avoid the area.
