An Upper Gwynedd man has been charged with felony attempted burglary of an occupied home, and misdemeanor harassment by repeatedly alarming or annoying another and disorderly conduct for trying to break into his neighbors’ apartment on Wissahickon Avenue.

Police were dispatched to a home on the 100 block of Wissahickon Avenue at 7:22 p.m., where it was reported that two victims were hiding in a second-floor bedroom from Jason Michael Freed, 41, according to charging documents.

On arrival, the victims told police that Freed had been banging on their walls all day long, cursing and shouting obscenities at them, police allege.

Eventually, Freed allegedly walked around to their front porch, broke the porch lap and threw it away on the front lawn, authorities said.

He then allegedly banged on the front door and pushed it forcefully, in an attempt to get inside the home. Freed then broke the glass window at the top of the exterior door, shattering glass inside and outside the home, police said.

When he heard the victims calling 911, he said, “You better call the cops because I run this b----,” before fleeing the scene, per the affidavit.

Once police found Freed inside his home, the victims identified him as the suspect, police said.

Freed remains incarcerated at Montgomery County jail on $25,000 cash bail, per court records. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard.
