Hatfield Police confirmed Monday that a live grenade was found by a Line Lexington Road resident while metal detecting in Green Lane Park on Sunday afternoon, who later brought it home, but authorities were unable to determine if it was still functional.

Police said the Montgomery County Sheriff's Bomb and Hazardous Device Disposal Unit was called to the home on the 2500 block of Line Lexington Road in Hatfield Township at 3:10 p.m., where it was determined it was live. They removed the device from the scene for later disposal, police said.

"The resident was unsure if it was a live grenade and transported it back to their residence," police said.

The roadway was closed and the home evacuated, police said. Line Lexington Road was shut down for about 90 minutes, reopening around 4:45 p.m.

Marlborough Township Police was notified of the device's discovery, since it was reportedly found in their jurisdiction, police said.

Colmar Fire Department assisted police at the scene.
