Homes evacuated Tuesday night as investigators search for source of strong chemical odor

Residents are being temporarily evacuated from townhomes near the 300 block of Amy Court at General Hancock Boulevard Tuesday night in Montgomery Township as Montgomery County Hazardous Materials Response Team, police and fire investigators locate the source of an overpowering chemical odor.

Initial reports from Montgomery County emergency dispatch said residents reported a strong odor of chlorine bleach around 6:30 p.m. and the call went out as a hazardous materials incident.

At least two people are reporting illness symptoms related to the odor. 

Responding units include Montgomery Township Police, Fire Department of Montgomery Township, Colmar Fire Co., and North Penn Vol. Fire Co., as well as four ambulances from VMSC EMS. 

Fire crews have extended a ladder to the roof of the townhomes. 

The road is closed at Route 202 and Amy Court, and at Amy Court and General Hancock Boulevard.
