A small black bear was seen in residential backyards over the weekend in Montgomery Township, Hilltown Township, Sellersville Borough, Chalfont Borough and the Doylestown area.
A resident of Grays Lane in Montgomery Township, located off Upper State Road between County Line and Montgomery Glen Drive, reported to police that the bear was in her backyard Sunday morning.
On Monday afternoon, Perkasie Borough Police Department issued a warning to Facebook followers of several reported sightings of a small black bear on the south side of Sellersville, near the border with Hilltown Township.
“If seen, do not approach the bear. Please call our non-emergency line at 215-527-6876 and report the location,” police wrote.
Perkasie Borough Police was working in concert with the Pennsylvania Game Commission to attempt to locate the bear.
A black bear was spotted in the Olde Colonial Greene development in Doylestown on Friday morning near Route 611, according to Bucks County Courier Times. It is the third time since April that a bear was spotted in Bucks County, as Solebury Township and Upper Makefield Township residents reported bear sightings on May 20 and April 30, respectively.
Doylestown residents reported seeing the bear prior to 10 a.m. Friday running across Limekiln Road, per the report.
According to the PA Game Commission, it is common to see bear in southeastern Pennsylvania between April and June, as it is the mating season.
