Of course York Avenue, Knapp, and North Wales elementaries rocked the annual end-of-school-year event: Being a star makes you invincible.
Ya-hoo! North Penn School District elementary students had no problem conquering Olympic Day on Friday.
The weather was hot and the teamwork was strong at the annual district athletic event, which district physical education teachers plan, organize and execute with a theme. Last year, it was Philadelphia sports team. This year's theme was "Super Mario Bros."
The events did not take up too mush-room on the outdoor fields at York Avenue, Knapp and North Wales elementaries, where students teamed up by blue, red, green and yellow to compete against their classes by exercising and playing games related to the video game franchise. Games had titles such as "Water World," "Plunger Relay," "Rainbow Road," and "Yoshi's World," where students, for instance, filled up water blasters to spray and knock down objects, or tossed yarn balls into bins, or "warp pipes," set up at varying distances.
Just like in Mario Kart, the fastest wins.
