For 100 years, the Rotary Club of North Penn has been providing community outreach and support and sharing a common passion of local and worldwide “Service Above Self.”
For nearly half its existence, the club has given back to the community every year by hosting its huge free Lansdale Day Art & Craft Festival event.
The festival returns in all its glory this weekend in downtown Lansdale, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on West Main Street.
The event is the Club’s major annual fundraiser, said Rotary Club event manager Tammy Skiermont. The presenting sponsor is Dr. Floyd Herman of Lansdale Plastic Surgery.
"The money for our fundraiser comes from our amazing sponsors and booth spaces," she said. "Lansdale Plastic Surgery has been wonderful."
Since the Rotary Club runs on a fiscal year, Lansdale Day kicks off their budget year and raises all the money it needs for the up and coming year, Skiermont said.
"We are able to set our budget and work off of that to give our donations and financial support to local nonprofits that count on us for support," she said.
Skiermont said all money received is given right back to the community, including Manna on Main Street, Laurel House, the Lansdale YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club, Easter Seals, and Garden of Health, to name a few.
“This year is our Club's centennial anniversary,” she said. “We've been providing community service to the North Penn area for a century - since 1924! We are grateful for the annual opportunity Lansdale Day Art & Craft Festival provides for us to not only connect with community, but the event's proceeds help us to financially support the dozens of exceptional local nonprofit organizations and local charitable organizations who count on our annual support.”
As of April 15, the event sold out of food vendor, business, and sponsor spaces, and its artisan list was completed by the end of March.
"We decided to do some artisan raffle baskets this year. We have about six of them," Skiermont said. "Tickets are affordable and you can win artisan-made items from artisans at Lansdale Day."
Lansdale Day has free admission and free parking. Attendees are invited to walk downtown Main Street and shop, eat and enjoy the event. Highlights include home and garden décor, original art, food trucks, a community marketplace, live DJ, bumper cars, face painting, carnival games, a fire trucks display and a new car show.
"We've got the dunk tank coming and we also have bumper cars, which we had last year. New this year is a new car display near the Univest building. Several area dealerships are bringing over brand new cars to check out," Skiermont said. "We also have over 125 artisans this year, which is amazing, and they will have everything you can imagine under the sun."
Of course, there is also the ever-popular Rotary 50/50 raffle, with a special donation from Retroware Arcade.
"Last year, the winner walked away with $500," Skiermont said.
There will also be three food courts at Lansdale Day: Main and Susquehanna, Main and North Richardson, and at Wood Street.
"We will have great food at the West Main lot, as well as down near Richardson: from hot dogs to Latin cuisine, to everything in between," she said.
Corporate sponsors for the festival include Jefferson Health, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Discover Lansdale, Cannoneers, American Heritage Credit Union, Elm Terrace Gardens, and Power Home Remodeling.
Activity sponsors are Harleysville Bank, QNB, Patient First, Kessler Dental, C&N, and Keller Williams Real Estate. Event sponsors include BZ Orthodontics, Lansdale Presbyterian Church, Lansdale Tavern, Univest Financial, and Independence Blue Cross.
