A Southampton man who is not permitted to carry a concealed weapon, police said, is facing a felony charge of carrying firearms without a license and additional driving under the influence offenses related to an accident in New Britain Borough earlier this month.

According to an affidavit, Sean F. Doyle, 35, of the 300 block of Maple Avenue, was found by Central Bucks Regional Police Department suffering from an overdose in the parking lot of Town Center shopping plaza in New Britain Borough on the morning of May 3. The report came in as an unresponsive male with shallow breathing inside a black pickup truck parked in the rear of the Giant Food Store, police said.

Upon arrival, police were flagged down by a group of individuals, who pointed out Doyle lying on his back on the ground in the parking lot behind a black pickup truck belonging to his employer, police said.

Doyle had extremely shallow breathing, police said, and his face began to turn blue. Chal-Brit Regional EMS responded to the scene and gave Doyle naloxone, which woke him up immediately, police allege.

Doyle was taken to Doylestown Hospital for further evaluation, police said.

An investigation revealed that Doyle was driving westbound on Butler Avenue, when he hit the curb near Ute Road, and then turned into the shopping center, where he hit a parked car, police allege.

A representative from Doyle’s employer verified to police that Doyle had been assigned to drive the company vehicle, and also told officers that a gun was found inside a Carhartt backpack in the backseat of the truck, police said.

The representative told police that a friend of Doyle’s who witnessed the accident told him that Doyle texted him about removing the backpack from the truck because there was a gun in it, according to police.

Police said the gun was a Sig Sauer P365 firearm that was loaded with bullets in the magazine, but not secured in a holster. According to the complaint, the gun was registered to Doyle, but he did not have a concealed carry permit.

Police said Doyle was not allowed to have a permit because of multiple misdemeanor drug convictions as far back as 2008.

Officers executed a search warrant for Doyle’s bloodwork at Doylestown Hospital to be sent for lab testing, police said.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 4 at 3:45 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage, according to court records.

Doyle is free on $10,000 unsecured bail, per court documents. He is represented by attorney Ryan Geib of Moorestown, NJ.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
