  • Montgomery County

Pennypacker Mills in Schwenksville went back in time 247 years last weekend.

For the second year, Montgomery County residents were able to experience life during the Revolutionary War, as the Colonial revival mansion and Revolutionary War encampment site was transformed into an American Revolution-era military encampment, similar to the Continental Army's at Pennypacker Mills in 1777.

The free event featured dozens of reenactors portraying soldiers and camp followers, cavalry demonstrations, firing and maneuvering drills, guest lecturers, food and beer, an exhibition on Merchant Marine privateers from the AWI Privateer Museum, a Colonial brewing demonstration, crafts, and Colonial fife and drum music.

Pennypacker Mills is at 5 Haldeman Road and is operated by the county's Division of Parks, Trails & Historic Sites. The site is open year-round for free guided tours, craft workshops, special presentations, education programs and more.
