One unidentified individual was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries following a head-on collision in Towamencin Township Wednesday evening on Sumneytown Pike.

Reports from the scene indicated that both vehicles – a white Chevrolet Equinox SUV and a Chrysler Town and Country – were driving in opposite directions on Sumneytown Pike, when one vehicle attempted a left turn onto Wambold Road around 5:43 p.m.

Portions of the intersection remained open following the crash, however a large amount of traffic was diverted away from the scene.

Towamencin Township Police, VMSC Emergency Medical Services, Towamencin Fire Police and Harleysville Community Fire Police all responded to and assisted at the scene.

According to reports and radio dispatch, the call was initially for an accident with injuries, then upgraded to a rescue, but then finally downgraded to no rescue.

Traffic was interrupted for about 45 minutes until the scene was processed and cleared.
