Chief Shane Wheeler, CEO of VMSC Emergency Medical Services, is set to be honored with the prestigious Patriot Award for his outstanding support of National Guard and Reserve members. The award, presented by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), recognizes Chief Wheeler's unwavering commitment to assisting citizen warriors and their families.Chief Wheeler's dedication to the well-being of service members is evident in his tireless efforts in accommodating and supporting the needs of Reserve and Guard members. These efforts, including flexible schedules, compassionate leave policies, and unwavering familial support, have garnered the admiration and respect of those under his leadership. The nomination for the Patriot Award came from Alec Bermes, a 68W Combat Medic in the US Army and an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician at VMSC. Bermes cited Chief Wheeler's exemplary leadership and genuine care for his team, highlighting his pivotal role in fostering a supportive environment for military-affiliated personnel within the organization.
The award will be presented by Major General Wesley E. Craig Jr., formerly The Adjutant General, Pennsylvania, and current South East Area Chair of ESGR, who himself boasts a distinguished military career spanning decades of service to the nation. Major General Craig's presence underscores the significance of Chief Wheeler's contributions not only to VMSC but also to the broader military community.
Chief Wheeler's own military background as an army medic during Operation Desert Storm, imbues his leadership with firsthand understanding and empathy for the unique challenges faced by servicemembers and their families.
The presentation ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, March 29th, 2024, at VMSC Emergency Medical Services, 175 Medical Campus Dr, Lansdale, PA 19446.
