A blue BMW sedan sustained severe damage to nearly the entire vehicle after crashing into a dual-sided gas pump at the Sunoco at North Broad and East Third streets in Lansdale Tuesday night, according to reports from the scene.
Furthermore, investigators at the scene told North Penn Now that the driver of the car walked home after police received all the information from them. The Sunoco was littered with major debris from the crash and pieces of the pump. At least a second pump was destroyed from debris and a tire, according to reports.
Airbags were deployed in the crash, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m. There was no EMS that responded to the scene, per reports. It is unknown Tuesday night as to the number of occupants.
Lansdale Police were witnessed by reporters on scene taking photos of the vehicle, paying attention to the trunk of the car.
Fairmount Fire Co. responded to the scene and addressed the gas spill from the damaged vehicle, per reports. There was no gas leakage from the pumps.
North Broad Street is closed between East Fourth Street and East Hudson Alley. Lansdale Fire Police assisted at the scene.
According to eyewitnesses and surveillance video, the BMW was driving on Broad Street, attempting to overtake another vehicle. Per accounts, the rear of the car got clipped, causing the driver to lose control into the pumps.
