Perkasie Woman to be Charged with DUI Following Weekend Crash on Allentown Road

The crash occurred at 11:55 p.m. on March 22 along the 800 block of Allentown Road in Franconia Township.

A Bucks County woman will face DUI charges following a single-vehicle crash late Friday night on Allentown Road.

Franconia Township Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Allentown Road at 11:55 p.m. on March 22 for a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment. Arriving crews located a black Hyundai Sonata that failed to navigate a right turn in the roadway, which instead struck the guardrail and overturned in the grass outside of the Rising Sun Inn.

Police said the driver, identified as a 24-year-old female from Perkasie, became trapped in the vehicle after the crash, and she was subsequently rescued by firefighters who had to cut away the windshield of the vehicle. The driver, whose name has not been released as charges have not yet been filed, was transported from the scene via ambulance to Grand View Hospital as a precaution, police said.

Witnesses at the scene said they heard the impact of the crash but did not hear any brake sounds prior to the crash. Franconia Township Police Chief Michael Martin said the vehicle continued straight into the guardrail instead of following the curve, and his department would be filing DUI and related vehicle code charges as a result of the crash.

The guardrail was badly damaged by the crash, as was the vehicle. Martin said PennDOT was notified of the damaged guardrail, and PennDOT would be responsible for its replacement.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Allentown Road was closed between Creamery and Rising Sun roads due to the crash, with the scene being cleared around 2 a.m. Saturday morning.

Franconia Township Police were assisted at the scene by units from the Souderton Borough Police Department, Telford Fire Company, and VMSC Emergency Medical Services.
