A Montgomery Township man with a history of shoplifting convictions has been nabbed by Hilltown Township Police for felony retail theft for allegedly under-ringing $43 of merchandise at Walmart by scanning $1 in candles instead on Feb. 17, police said.
Anthony Louis Robinson, 51, of the 2700 block of Adams Court in the Wood Hollow Condominiums development, is free on $20,000 unsecured bail following a March 7 preliminary arraignment before Bucks County District Judge Regina Armitage, according to court records.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 23 at 2:30 p.m. before Armitage, according to court records.
Police investigated a report of retail theft that occurred Feb. 17 at 6:15 p.m. at the Walmart at 1515 Bethlehem Pike, and met with a loss prevention officer. Police said the Walmart loss prevention officer saw a black man, identified as Robinson, wearing a tan coat, tan hat and tan work boots use the self checkout, where he allegedly was captured on video under ringing items. Robinson, police allege, swiped a pack of candles valued at $1 instead of the appropriate merchandise that was valued at $42.95.
The loss prevention officer stopped Robinson at the exit and confronted him about under ringing the items, police said. Robinson denied wrongdoing and became argumentative, police said. He then left the store with the merchandise and walked quickly to a gray Kia Sportage, police said.
As Robinson backed out of the parking space, the loss prevention officer approached the car, police said. As he did that, Robinson allegedly continued to reverse away from him, police said.
The loss prevention officer provided surveillance video to police, which allegedly shows Robinson walking away from the store, entering a car and backing out of a parking space, police said.
Through a vehicle identification search on Google, and matching it with a photo provided by Walmart, the car was identified as a Kia Sportage, police said. Police found Robinson’s car on traffic cameras southbound on Route 309 at 6:21 p.m., police said, and grabbed a photo of his license plate.
The plate came back registered to Robinson and Wanda Burgess of the 2700 block of Adams Court, police said. Police also did a driver’s license photo search and matched Robinson’s photo to the suspect on store surveillance, police allege.
