Chalfont Farmer Ryan Coleman Wows 'The Voice' Judges in Blind Audition

Put down the pitchfork and pick up the mic – there’s a new moo-sical sensation in Chalfont.

Meet Ryan Coleman, 25, the farmer turned crooner who swapped udderly early mornings for the spotlight after his Blind Audition of Bill Withers’ "Ain’t No Sunshine” on NBC’s "The Voice” not only harvested applause, but also redefined "farm-to-stage” entertainment.

Coleman’s family owns Coleman Hay Farms at 138 Walter Road.

The singer’s story is one filled with tragedy, rehabilitation, and revival.

Three years ago, Coleman’s flame was nearly extinguished in a severe car accident; he survived, barely.

"I had a severe concussion, I slipped a disc in my back. I was laying in the snow, I was bleeding a lot and couldn’t move much," he said in the broadcast last week, per NBC. "My concussion lasted several weeks and I was in a bed for a few months. Man, does it change your perspective on things.”

Coleman said he thought he had the rest of his life to look forward to, and one day, it was nearly over.

"It’s been a huge motivator. I want to do what I want to. I want to achieve what I want to, because tomorrow is never a given. That’s why I’m here," he said.

According to the NBC report, Coleman learned perseverance and strength at the early age of four on the farm, milking his first cow.

"Farming is not work for the faint of heart. It really teaches you [about] hard work. It’s not for everybody, but it’s definitely for me," he said in the article.

While Coleman dreamed of Reba McEntire swiveling around to choose him, he ended up with the country duo Dan + Shay, made up of Allegheny County native Dan Smyers, and Shay Mooney.

Smyers called Coleman’s voice the "identity (that) we’ve been listening for all day,” throwing in the fact that the female fans in the audience loved it.

"It's good to have a Pennsylvania boy on the team," said Smyers, who originally hails from Wexford, PA. "I loved the performance, man.”
