Lansdale Police are reminding residents of bicycle safety regulations after a cyclist rode directly into a Mercedes at the intersection of Main and Broad streets Tuesday afternoon.
Police and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene at 12:14 p.m. on March 12 for what was initially described as a vehicle accident with a pedestrian struck. Arriving police, however, located a Mercedes SUV with cosmetic damage after being struck by a 38-year-old male riding a bicycle.
According to Lansdale Police Lt. Adrienne Gori, the cyclist entered the roadway without yielding to vehicle traffic that had the right of way, which caused him to crash into the SUV. Gori added that despite the EMS dispatch, there were no reported injuries and the man declined treatment by emergency medical personnel.
The scene was cleared at 12:39 p.m.
Lansdale Police were assisted at the scene by units from VMSC Emergency Medical Services.
Police said they want to issue a reminder that bicycles are subject to traffic control devices as if they were operating a motor vehicle.
