Montgomery County Appoints Benjamin H. Field as New County Solicitor

The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners voted Thursday to appoint Benjamin H. Field to County Solicitor. Field will join the County on April 15, 2024.

 

"Ben brings a wealth of experience to the County’s legal team and our senior staff, adept at using law and litigation to advance everything from public safety and consumer protections to anti-discrimination policies,” said Jamila H. Winder, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. "His professional experience with the City of Philadelphia will be a tremendous asset to Montgomery County, where he will be an advocate for our County’s programs, policies, services, and employees.”

 

Field has worked for the City of Philadelphia for seven years. His most recent role is Chief Deputy City Solicitor for the city’s Affirmative and Special Litigation Unit. Prior to that, he was an associate at several law firms in the area.

Field is valued for his strategic vision, intellectual rigor, creative problem solving, and judgment. He is known for his work in impact litigation, constitutional and commercial litigation, class action, election law, and alternative dispute resolution.


"The County Solicitor is responsible for ensuring that our ordinances and resolutions respect the law of the County and the Commonwealth,”said Thomas DiBello, Montgomery County Commissioner. Field earned his BA in political science from Vassar College, MA in social sciences from the University of Chicago, and JD from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.

 

The Montgomery County Commissioners thank Ray McGarry for his excellent service as interim solicitor since July 2023 and are grateful that Ray will continue to contribute to the work of Montgomery County going forward to the benefit of all residents.
