Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing truck into utility pole Saturday night

 A driver was taken into custody Saturday night for suspicion of DUI after crashing into a utility pole and snapping it near its base on Cowpath Road.

Franconia Township Police said there were no injuries in the 9:54 p.m. crash on Cowpath Road near Church Road. According to authorities, a caller reported hearing a crash at that time, but could not see it from their location.

Upon arrival, police found a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck smashed into the pole, after turning right from Church Road onto Cowpath Road. Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The crash snapped the pole onto the hood and roof of the pickup truck, and brought wires down across the street, which landed on a white sedan driving the opposite direction.

There were no injuries. Cowpath and Church roads were shut down, police said. The scene was cleared by first responders at 1:33 a.m., as PP&L Electric kept the road closed to replace the utility pole.

Franconia Police were assisted at the scene by Souderton and Telford Borough police departments, Telford Fire Co., Telford Fire Police, and Perseverance Fire Police.
