A North Wales woman has been charged with felony retail theft for stealing $200 worth of items from Weis Markets in Upper Gwynedd Township on five occasions over a three-month period.

Police allege Alicia R. Burns, 37, of the 100 block of South Swartley Street, was kept under investigation by the store’s loss prevention officers for the repeated thefts that occurred at the self-checkout.

Burns, per the complaint, stole $74.24 worth of merchandise on March 3 and March 29, 2024, of which $6.72 of it was done by under-ringing two items. She then stole, police allege, $125.78 worth of merchandise on May 12, 18 and 19.

Police said Burns failed to pay for certain items and then took the stolen items and walked out of the store, issuing an arrest warrant on June 11.

According to the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, retail theft carries a third-degree felony when the offense is the third or subsequent offense, regardless of the value of merchandise.

Burns has an active case out of East Norriton Township, where she is charged with second-degree misdemeanor retail theft, according to court documents.

Burns is free on $2,500 unsecured bail, set by Magisterial District Judge Christopher J. Cerski at arraignment, per court records.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 18 at 9 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Suzan Leonard on the recent felony case. Then, four days later, Burns will have a preliminary hearing for the East Norriton case before Magisterial District Judge Marc A. Alfarano, according to court records.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
