A Lansdale man faces a misdemeanor charge of suspected DUI and summary offenses of reckless driving, accidents involving damage to unattended vehicles and failing to stop and give information, police allege, for hitting three parked cars around Cannon Avenue and West Third Street and then a traffic light.
At 3:16 p.m. May 28, Lansdale Police responded to a report of an accident with injuries at West Main and Wood streets, where a white Ford F-150 collided with a traffic light, police said.
Upon arrival, police found the Ford on the southwest sidewalk, and made contact with the driver, identified as Kevin Lopez, 22, of the unit block of North Richardson Avenue, who was semi-alert, lethargic and swaying in his seat, police said. He did not respond when asked if he was OK, police said, and handed over a pile of paperwork when asked for his registration and insurance.
Lopez was asked to exit the car, but he said, “F—k that,” per the affidavit. Officers assisted him out and he became passive-aggressive, tensing up and refusing to comply with commands, police allege. He had slurred speech, could not stand steadily, was swaying, had red, glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol on him, and an odor of burnt marijuana on him, police said.
Police placed Lopez under arrest due to lack of cooperation and for suspicion of DUI, police said. VMSC EMS arrived on scene to evaluate Lopez, but he refused any treatment. He was taken to police headquarters, where police allege he continued the behavior and had to be placed face down on the jail bed to remove handcuffs. Police said Lopez refused a blood draw for DUI.
Prior to the accident, police received reports of a reckless driver and three hit-and-run incidents near Cannon Avenue and West Third Street, and allege Lopez was the driver.
A summons was issued for Lopez on June 6. No arraignment or bail information was provided on the criminal docket. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Edward Levine, per court documents.
