After two years, those riding two wheels can celebrate safety on South Broad Street, thanks to efforts from Upper Gwynedd Township, Bike North Penn and The Partnership TMA of Montgomery County.
On Tuesday, June 18, from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., those agencies invite the public – bikes, helmets and all – to a special bike ride and new bike lane celebration, rain or shine, at Parkside Place Park in Upper Gwynedd. It coincides with Upper Gwynedd Township Parks and Recreation’s “Unplugged Week” for families.
The celebration is a culmination of The Partnership TMA of Montgomery County’s “Bike More Drive Less” two-year project, according to communications and engagement manager Ty Fellenberg-Weiss in a press release.
“These lanes are a testament to our collaborative efforts with municipal leaders and the active engagement of our local community members, who have consistently shown strong support for investing in sustainable transportation options,” said Fellenberg-Weiss. “The new bike lanes on S. Broad Street will not only enhance connectivity within our county, but also contribute to the safety of cyclists by linking with existing lanes on Morris Road.
Fellenberg-Weiss said this expansion of the bicycle network reflects the Partnership TMA’s commitment to fostering a more bike-friendly environment and promoting alternative modes of transportation.
The celebration comes on the wheels of the Bike Fix-It Station ribbon cutting in Lansdale Borough’s Stony Creek Park, which accommodates bikers on the Liberty Bell Trail.
From 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., there will be bike safety resources activities, like free helmets and a pop quiz prize wheel.
From 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., the celebration and press event will occur, as well as the choice of a 1-mile all-ages family bike ride or a 6-mile bike ride, suitable for older children and adults.
