A Lansdale woman with a history of retail theft convictions has been charged by Montgomery Township Police with two felony counts each of retail theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing about $200 worth of groceries from Wegmans in Montgomeryville.

On July 1, at 12:53 p.m., police were called to Wegmans at 804 Bethlehem Pike for a late report of retail theft. Upon arrival, police spoke with a loss prevention officer who related that a woman, identified as Hurt, began placing groceries in a shopping cart and reusable bags, police said. After Hurt selected the merchandise, she then exited the store without paying, stealing a total of $112.45 in items, police allege.

On July 17, at 12:23 p.m., police were called to Wegmans again for a retail theft in progress.

Upon arrival, police spoke to a loss prevention officer who related that Hurt was placing Red Bull into reusable bags into a shopping cart, per the affidavit. After she selected the drinks, she purchased a loaf of bread, but did not pay for the Red Bull, totaling $89.96, police said.

She then attempted to leave the store, but was taken into custody by police, per the complaint.

Hurt had three prior retail theft convictions in her criminal record, police said.

According to the court docket, Hurt posted $77 cash bail on Thursday. As previously reported by North Penn Now, bail being set at $77 is a code, of sorts, indicating that there was a detainer out for the defendant at the time of their arrest and she was to be kept in custody on previous parole or probation violations.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6 at 9:45 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy.

Hurt has an active case at the District Court level out of Lansdale Borough, where charges were filed via summons one day before Montgomery Township charged Hurt in the retail theft case. According to records, Hurt will have a preliminary hearing on Aug. 21 at 1:30 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Edward Levine on charges of misdemeanor DUI for the Lansdale arrest.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
