A career that’s spanned nearly a third of Lansdale’s history has come to a close.

Borough officials honored Eileen Nacarella, longtime finance department’s senior customer service representative, at the close of her 50 — yes, 50 — year career in Lansdale.

“Eileen specifically chose July 2nd to retire, because that is the exact, 50th anniversary of the day that she was hired in Lansdale Borough. What a great milestone,” said borough Manager John Ernst.

“We don’t get a chance to do this very often. Fifty years is something that we don’t take lightly,” he said.

Council kicked off their monthly business meeting July 17 by cheering for Nacarella, after Ernst and Mayor Garry Herbert each presented proclamations honering her half-century working for the town.

“For five decades, Eileen has handled a diverse range of tasks in the customer service department,” Herbert said, “working with various departments, managing customer needs, and adapting to various changes over her career.”

“As Eileen enters her retirement, a milestone that signifies the peak of her rewarding career, and the beginning of a new chapter, we hope the next part of her life is even more rewarding than her tenure in Lansdale. Now, on behalf of myself and borough council, I take this opportunity to thank Eileen for her years of service, and congratulate her in her retirement,” he said.

Nacarella was the only borough employee to work in the town’s former municipal building at 421 West Main Street, the former post office converted into town offices in the mid-1980s, and the rebuilt combined office building and police station that opened in 2015. As council and her colleagues applauded, Ernst presented her with a proclamation from state representative, and former borough councilman, Steve Malagari honoring her career.

“She has proven to be a champion for the residents of Lansdale, working cooperatively with the electric department to ensure that residential and commercial customers were billed fairly and accurately,” he said.

“She was instrumental in the development of Lansdale Borough’s customer service department, using her knowledge to aid in the smooth transition for staff and residents. And, she has worked with customers to assist in creating payment plans, serving as a necessary community steward during the COVID-19 pandemic, and she has proven to be a great asset to the borough,” Ernst said.

Electric superintendent Andy Krauss added his own thanks to Nacarella for helping his rise through the ranks of that department, and said she “has always been a great colleague.” Council President Mary Fuller added a callback to comments she made to Nacarella for a similar recognition years ago: “I asked if she started when she was 10, and I stand by that today: you hardly look 50, let alone to have put in 50 years of service. But we all appreciate the career that you dedicated to the borough of Lansdale.”
