A Philadelphia man is facing a felony theft of services charge after police allege he failed to pay a $7,000 car repair bill at a Lansdale business.

On June 17, at 10:48 a.m., Lansdale Police responded to Bob’s Auto Clinic, 145 E. Main St., and met with a shop representative who informed them that Charles Nathaniel Robinson, picked up his 2011 Dodge Ram without paying for services completed, police said, totaling $7,914.40.

Police said Robinson arrived at the body shop on June 14 and spoke to a tow truck driver who was working that night. Robinson, police allege, told the driver that he spoke to the auto clinic’s owner and he had paid the amount in full that was due via online payment. He then drove the truck off the lot without paying, police said.

Police said the auto clinic does not have any online payment services and only cash, check or credit/debit is accepted.

On June 21, police followed-up with the owner, who told them Robinson has been a longtime customer and did not have any issues with him paying for car repairs, per the complaint. The owner had talked to Robinson three times on June 13, relating to him that the vehicle was ready for pickup, police said.

Robinson, per the affidavit, brough a spare key with him because the shop had the Dodge Ram key fob in its possession.

Magisterial District Judge Dara Nasatir initially set bail at $2,000 cash at Robinson’s June 28 arraignment, and he was remanded to Montgomery County jail, per court records. On July 1, per a Common Pleas court order, Robinson’s bail was decreased to $100 cash, and he posted it same day.

A preliminary hearing is set for July 24 at 10 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Edward Levine.
