Tailgaters beware: New Britain Police cracking down on aggressive driving through mid-August

New Britain Township Police announced it will be undertaking an aggressive-driving enforcement wave through Aug. 18.

“The goal of targeted enforcement is to reduce the number of aggressive driving related crashes, injuries, and deaths on roadways throughout the state. Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a ticket. Motorists exhibiting other unsafe behaviors such as driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, or making careless lane changes will also be cited,” police said in a news release.

Aggressive driving includes the following:

  • Making illegal U-turn
  • Improper/careless turning
  • Turning from wrong lane
  • Proceeding without clearance after stop
  • Running stop signs
  • Running red lights
  • Failure to respond to other traffic control devices
  • Tailgating
  • Sudden slowing/stopping (brake-checking)
  • Careless passing or lane change
  • Passing in No Passing zone
  • Merging without signaling
  • Speeding
  • Driving too fast for conditions
  • Driver fleeing police

The enforcement is part of Pennsylvania’s Highway Safety Program and is funded by part of PennDOT’s investment of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to New Britain Township Police.
