(Editor’s note: The following is part of a series of monthly submissions from the North Penn School District Board of School Directors. This month’s submission was authored by President Tina Stoll. The views expressed within are her own.)
Dear North Penn Community,
On behalf of the North Penn School Board of Directors, I would like to thank all those who participated this past week in the referendum process regarding the future of NPHS. To our administration, who spent countless hours compiling the information, hosting forums, going out into the community to speak with stakeholders and responding to every question — thank you for your hard work and dedication to our district. To those stakeholders who took the time to get informed, to help disseminate accurate information, who participated in community sessions and provided constructive feedback — thank you for your commitment to our district. And to everyone who voted in the referendum, thank you for participating in the democratic process. Although the result is not what I personally had hoped for, we now have direction on how to proceed with the NPHS renovation moving forward.
Our goal remains to make North Penn High School a 21stcentury educational facility that serves our students in the best possible way and prepares them for a world beyond North Penn once they graduate.
We will continue to provide updates on the high school renovation, particularly at our Facilities & Operations committee meetings. I encourage all those who wish to be informed to tune in. The school board meeting schedule is available on the North Penn website. Most of our committee meetings are virtual and all are posted online afterwards. Our finance, worksession and action meetings are in-person, but also recorded for live viewing and streaming on NPTV. And as always, if you have questions or concerns along the way, please reach out to the administration or to a board director.
January has been a busy month with lots of great things happening in our district:
North Penn High School students took part in their own political process by holding a mock presidential convention. Students engaged in a bipartisan manner to discuss politics and address current issues facing our country today.
We have 17 North Penn choir students who have been selected to perform in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 11 Choir. They will be performing in the District Choir festival at Bensalem High School this week. Additionally, 21 band students played with the PMEA District 11 band earlier this month, and 12 orchestra students will perform with the PMEA District 11 orchestra in February. Congratulations to our talented music students!
Coming up this weekend, Jan. 27, the Sharing Excess North Penn Club is holding a "Free Food Fest” at North Penn High School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Their goal is to reduce food waste while increasing food access to others. Students are doing their part to tackle food insecurity in their community and we appreciate their efforts!
February is going to be yet another busy and exciting month in the North Penn School District, from Knight of Jazz on Feb. 2 to the Black History Oratorical Competition on Feb. 27, our students and staff continue to impress and excel. I am looking forward to the coming months and moving forward together with a unified goal — making North Penn schools as excellent as can be.
Signed,
Tina Stoll
